Slugs lose a heartbreaker to St. Vincent 61-52 in the Championship Game of the Hilton Slugs Tournament

SANTA CRUZ, CA  -- The UC Santa Cruz men's basketball team lose to the St. Vincent Bearcats 61-52. The game look closer than what the score projects as the teams were tied 24-24 at half time. The Slugs then cut St. Vincent's lead to one point with 2:37 remaining, but St. Vincent closed out the game on an 8-0 run to post a 61-52 beat slugs in the championship game of the Hilton Slugs Winter Tournament at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

Austin Steadman lead the Slugs in both rebounds and points with a double-double for a the second straight game. Austin had 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds.  Matthew Ponce lead the team with 5 assist, and Spencer Wells was perfect in his free throw, going 10 for 10 to help the Slugs get close in the game.
The loss puts the Slugs in (2-2) on the season, and ends their two game winning streak. This meeting between the Slugs and Bearcats was the first-ever meeting, with both programs being more than 2,400 miles apart.
